Introducing the objectives of Noise Watch Australia, (NWA) is to introduce the unwarranted and uncosted risk noise poses in our lives, to the places we live and the places we work. The principle goals of Noise Watch Australia are to eliminate unwanted noise, to reduce regulated levels of noise, and the impact it has in our community. Our purpose is to expose the attack by noise on the economic, social, and environmental integrity of our society. By necessity, this will involve encouraging ways of reducing noise.

NWA will promote universal recognition of the harmful effects of noise on both the physical and psychological health of individuals. In doing so we will also promote the benefits of better managing and reducing noise. Reducing noise will permit us to think clearly about what we are doing, and about the future.

So in point form, the many objectives of Noise Watch Australia are;

To obtain critical reference by Government authorities to the harmful effects of noise on both the physical and psychological health of individuals.

To encourage recognition of the economic cost of noise. Of how noise interference with cognitive process disrupts concentration, reduces reliability, quality and efficiency, of both principal and neighbouring activities.

To raise awareness of the great significance of noise pollution in our communities. Of the need to prioritise ongoing noise reduction strategies in both personal and commercial activity. Of the importance of an ongoing review of noisy process and appliances in daily use.

To promote the need for planning and building projects to firstly properly identify, and then account for the impact of noise that is incorporated into development change. To make the "you moved here" blame game redundant, and promote long term quiet as a responsibility of those generating and managing noise.

To alert environmental managers and the public, to the need to consider noise as a hazard that deserves better and more urgent solution priority.

To encourage the offer of support as a public management strategy to those being tortured by noise.

To encourage business to develop quieter processes and use quieter appliances to reduce stress in the workplace. To encourage business to make strategic use of noise abatement technology to deliver beneficial effects on productivity and OH&S outcomes.

To attain peaceful environments free of unwanted and unwarranted noise in all residential areas and public places.

Provide information and advice about Government and Council service to public interest in connection with the regulation and protection of quiet environments;

Provide educational material in matters relating to noise control and abatement; (Reference to documents and hyperlinks to relevant internet sites.)

Lobby Governments to fund research with a view to ascertaining the health and social needs of the community, and the most effective way of meeting those needs; the medical profession

Lobby academic institutions to undertake scientific research evaluating the effects and cost of uncontrolled noise in the community. Participate in such studies, and provide preliminary data by documenting the information we receive.

Advocate administrative and legal reform for the purpose of establishing quiet environments that protects individuals, families and communities from the harmful and invasive affects of unwanted noise.

This activity will seek to expose the health and safety risks of expanding development scale and duration of noisy activities into previously quiet environments or times.
Promote the need to protect the health and sanctity of living from unwanted noise 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.
Promote the concept of labelling noisy items such as machinery and tools, motor vehicles of any description.
Secure illegal status of disorderly conduct for those responsible for harmful noise levels. This noise might be produced from sources such as barking dogs, motor vehicles, amplified music equipment, wind chimes and manufacturing processes. Reference to these sources is not intended to be a complete list.

Advocate administrative and legal reform related to the social and ethical implications of burgeoning pet populations, particularly dogs, beyond what can be properly managed in close density housing environments.

Promote the conservation of quiet environments, preserving areas related to historical or cultural significance;

Develop the capacity of local community groups seeking to support these concepts and actions. To join with them to function as a national network dedicated to quiet;

Raise the profile of NWA within Australia and internationally;

Support the work of professional organisations, bodies corporate and individuals, that have interests that align with these objects;

Raise funds within Australia and internationally to fund the work targeting these objectives;

Establish and maintain a public fund, to be called the 'NWA Gift Fund', for the specific purpose of supporting the environmental objects/purposes of the association.
